3.Work achievements
Managed 8 research projects, including 2 National Natural Science Foundation of China, 3 National High Technology, 2 the National Environmental Protection Special Fund for Scientific Research on Public Causes of China, and 1Postdoctoral Science Foundation of China. The study has led to the publication of 118 papers, including 30 peer reviewed SCI papers, 21 EI papers and 83 CSCD papers, exclusively composed 4 academic books, such as “Methods of Soil and Environmental Research”, and applied 13 national invention patents (5 authorized patents). Second Prize of Science and Technology Award of Jiangsu Province was obtained in 2012.

4.Scientific discoveries
In recent years, the systematic and innovative research works were conducted on soil contamination characteristics, risk assessment, and bioremediation principle and technology. Creative achievements on soil contamination characteristics, ecological risk assessment, bioremediation principles and technology were accomplished. (1) The distribution and sources of Persistent Organic Pollutants such as Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) in farmland soils of the Yangtze River Delta were elucidated and their potential risk characteristics were also explored, which provided the scientific basis for soil pollution control and remediation of contaminated soils in the region; (2) A novel bacterial strain (Paracoccus aminovorans) capable of utilizing High-Molecular-Weight (HMW) PAHs (i.e. B[a]P) as sole carbon and energy source for growth was first isolated from PAH-contaminated soils. We further clarified microbial degradation pathways of B[a]P by bacteria. A new fungus producing laccase (Monilinia sp. W5) was isolated from PAH-contaminated soil. We first elucidated the degradation and remediation mechanism of PAHs by laccase oxidation, which has filled the gap in our knowledge of fungal laccase oxidation remediation principle of contaminated soils; (3) A new combined remediation strategy of Legume-Rhizobium symbiosis for Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) contaminated soil was put forward, and the chemical biology mechanism of plant-microorganism combined bioremediation has been clarified.
